TO THE ATTENTION OF ALL FIRST-YEAR STUDENTS OF ENGLISH PHILOLOGY
In February you will start a two-semester course in the history of 19th and 20th- century English literature. The novels that you will be discussing during the first semester are:
1. Charles Dickens - Great Expectations
2. Thomas Hardy - Tess of the D’Urbervilles
3. Joseph Conrad - Heart of Darkness
4. D.H.Lawrence - Sons and Lovers
In order to lighten your reading load and to make sure that you come to class well prepared, you are strongly advised to read these books in advance. Cheap editions of them are available in most big bookstores in Sofia and around the country.
In addition, you may also read the following novel either in English or in Bulgarian:
John Fowles: The French Lieutenant’s Woman
Bulgarian title: Джон Фаулз: Грешницата от Лайм Риджис (издадена 1984)
